David Priest

Teaching area: bass, guitar, piano, group piano, jazz improvisation, theory, composition

​David Priest graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Jazz Studies Program at DePaul University
with minors in Physics and Philosophy. He has performed nationally and internationally across a
wide range of genres, styles, and disciplines, including classical, show tunes, modern jazz,
swing, blues, and indie rock. David performs, arranges, and composes for small and large
ensembles.

In his teaching, David tries to deepen his students’ personal connections to music by introducing
them to new techniques, different perspectives, and the craft behind art. David’s goal is to help
give rise to a generation of self taught, thoughtful musicians, who recognize the artistic
sensibilities of others, learn from them, and use those insights to develop their own art.
